My cat Milo Mae has had a rough life, but somehow she is still kicking. I decided to write a really short and to-the-point biography of her adventure thus far because she is very special to me.
I first discovered Milo starving in the horse barn on October 6, 2012 . She was in such bad condition she could barely even walk to me when I called to her. I brought her food and water right away, then held and pet her for a while. Most tabby cats are males so I named her Milo and later found out she was a female. She was sweet from the very beginning but that may be because I saved her life.
Unfortunately, I can not keep Milo inside the house. So for a long time she stayed in the barn and that was her shelter. I went down there every day to check on her and feed her. The majority of the time she would be there and trot up to me when she heard my voice.
In the spring of 2013, Milo had a baby kitten. It was killed by the father cat, which happens sometimes. I suspect there were more kittens that were murdered before I even discovered she gave birth. Whenever I saw the father cat trying to get to the kitten I would run him off, but I could not guard it twenty-four hours a day. Nor could Milo .
One day she came back and I began feeding her on the porch instead. She finally worked her way up from "barn cat" to "porch cat". This of course caused a problem during storms and cold weather, so in those conditions she is brought into the garage.
Not long after her promotion to "porch cat" Milo was injured by an unknown source that was more than likely a car. She was gone for a few days, then one night she came limping up to the porch. Her front left leg was broken so I took her to a twenty-four hour hospital about an hour away. The veterinarian told me her leg was broken in a place that could not heal so she had to get her leg amputated.
Thus, Milo the three-legged cat was born. Since she was also spayed she does not venture nearly as far anymore. But she does fine and can even still hunt mice and bunnies. I know this because she brings them to the porch as gifts for me. It was adorable the first time when it was a field mouse, but the decapitated bunny did not sit too well with me. Nonetheless, she greets me at the door everyday to be brushed and fed.
